A LITTLE HOME FOR YOUR FAVORITES
Your own cookbook. A calmer kitchen.
A little more joy in the everyday.
We’re getting GreatNom ready for its App Store debut. Check back here for release links and availability.
YOUR KITCHEN, YOUR BUSINESS
GreatNom is a cookbook, not a data business. What you cook stays between you and your stove.
We don’t sell, rent, or share your data. There’s nothing to sell: your cookbook never reaches our servers.
No ads, no analytics, no trackers watching what you cook. The app only goes online when you import a link or choose an AI feature.
Every recipe is a plain Markdown file you can open anywhere. No proprietary format, and no hoops when you want to leave.
No sign-up, no email, no password. Open GreatNom and start cooking.
UNDER THE HOOD
Recipe apps shouldn’t feel slow. GreatNom is a native app with a Rust core, so it opens fast and stays fast as your cookbook grows.
The heart of GreatNom is written in Rust, a language built for speed and safety. It reads, saves, and imports your recipes without making you wait.
Your cookbook loads into memory once, so results appear as you type. No spinner, no server round trip, no waiting for a connection.
A local SQLite index keeps even a big cookbook quick to open, while every recipe stays a plain Markdown file you can read.
GreatNom uses your system’s own web view instead of bundling a whole browser, so it stays lightweight, starts fast, and sips memory.
A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING
Your cookbook starts empty, ready for the things you love to cook. Add a recipe by hand, import your Markdown files, or bring in a recipe from a supported website. The recipes on this page are just examples.
On your device, as plain Markdown files in your recipe folder. There’s no proprietary format, so any text editor can open them. GreatNom keeps an index, collections, and plans locally. Export your cookbook whenever you want to make a backup or take it with you.
Yes. Browsing your recipes, writing new ones, organising collections, planning meals, and drawing all work offline. Importing a web link or using an optional AI feature needs an internet connection.
There’s no GreatNom account to create. The core cookbook needs no AI key. If you want help importing from photos, video frames, or pasted text, you can add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key. Those services bill usage to your provider account.
Yes. Export your cookbook, move the exported folder to the other device, and import it there. Recipes, images, sketches, collections, and meal plans travel together. GreatNom does not automatically sync between devices.
This website’s drawing pad is a little playground. It stays in this browser tab and is cleared when you reload. Draw inside the GreatNom app to save a sketch with a recipe and include it in your cookbook exports.
