A LITTLE LOOK INSIDE

Less searching.
More supper.

That weeknight favorite. The cake you make for everyone. Finally, a place for all of them.

GreatNom

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Your kind of cooking.

Go on, have a look around. These are examples. Your cookbook starts with your recipes.

THE GOOD STUFF

Made for real kitchens.
And the people in them.

01 / KEEP IT YOURS

A folder full of favorites.

Bring your Markdown files, save a recipe from the web, or write one from scratch. Organize it your way. Take it with you whenever you like.

02 / FIND YOUR RHYTHM

One less “what’s for dinner?”

Put a few good meals on the calendar. See what you can make with what’s in the fridge. Or let a roll of the dice pick tonight’s recipe.

Try a little doodle
03 / MAKE YOUR MARK

Perfectly imperfect. Like you.

A photo is lovely. A wonky drawing of your favorite cookie? Even better. Give a recipe its own little sketch with your finger, a pen, or a mouse.

Keep the keepers

Favorites and collections for the recipes you come back to.

Find your place

Check off ingredients and steps as you cook.

Use what you have

Pantry matching that starts with your own cookbook.

Make yourself at home

We’re getting GreatNom ready for its App Store debut. Check back here for release links and availability.

YOUR KITCHEN, YOUR BUSINESS

Your recipes. Your app.
Your data.

GreatNom is a cookbook, not a data business. What you cook stays between you and your stove.

  • Never sold. Ever.

We don’t sell, rent, or share your data. There’s nothing to sell: your cookbook never reaches our servers.

  • No tracking

No ads, no analytics, no trackers watching what you cook. The app only goes online when you import a link or choose an AI feature.

  • No lock-in

Every recipe is a plain Markdown file you can open anywhere. No proprietary format, and no hoops when you want to leave.

  • No account

No sign-up, no email, no password. Open GreatNom and start cooking.

UNDER THE HOOD

Lightweight. Quick.
Built to last.

Recipe apps shouldn’t feel slow. GreatNom is a native app with a Rust core, so it opens fast and stays fast as your cookbook grows.

  • A Rust core

The heart of GreatNom is written in Rust, a language built for speed and safety. It reads, saves, and imports your recipes without making you wait.

  • Search that keeps up

Your cookbook loads into memory once, so results appear as you type. No spinner, no server round trip, no waiting for a connection.

  • A tiny database, right on your disk

A local SQLite index keeps even a big cookbook quick to open, while every recipe stays a plain Markdown file you can read.

  • Light on your computer

GreatNom uses your system’s own web view instead of bundling a whole browser, so it stays lightweight, starts fast, and sips memory.

A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING

Good questions.

Does GreatNom come with recipes?

Your cookbook starts empty, ready for the things you love to cook. Add a recipe by hand, import your Markdown files, or bring in a recipe from a supported website. The recipes on this page are just examples.

Where do my recipes live?

On your device, as plain Markdown files in your recipe folder. There’s no proprietary format, so any text editor can open them. GreatNom keeps an index, collections, and plans locally. Export your cookbook whenever you want to make a backup or take it with you.

Can I use it without the internet?

Yes. Browsing your recipes, writing new ones, organizing collections, planning meals, and drawing all work offline. Importing a web link or using an optional AI feature needs an internet connection.

Do I need an account or an AI subscription?

There’s no GreatNom account to create. The core cookbook needs no AI key. If you want help importing from photos, video frames, or pasted text, you can add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key. Those services bill usage to your provider account.

Can I move my cookbook to another device?

Yes. Export your cookbook, move the exported folder to the other device, and import it there. Recipes, images, sketches, collections, and meal plans travel together. GreatNom does not automatically sync between devices.

What happens to the sketches I make here?

This website’s drawing pad is a little playground. It stays in this browser tab and is cleared when you reload. Draw inside the GreatNom app to save a sketch with a recipe and include it in your cookbook exports.
